Frequently asked questions

Why can't this site detect my microphone?
Usually the browser was not given permission. Click the lock or camera icon to the left of the address bar, allow microphone access and reload the page. Also make sure the microphone isn't disabled at the system level (Windows: Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone; macOS: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone).
The meter stays at zero while I talk. What should I do?
Pick another device from the list — the browser may be using the wrong input (for example the built-in mic instead of your headset). Check the mute switch on your headset and the input volume in your system sound settings. For Bluetooth headsets, disconnect and reconnect them.
Is my voice sent to a server?
No. All analysis and recording happen locally in your browser. The recording only lives in this tab's memory and disappears when you close it.
What is a good microphone level?
When speaking normally 15–30 cm (6–12 in) from the mic, the meter should reach roughly 40–80. If peaks keep hitting 100 your voice will distort; if it barely reaches 15–20, people will struggle to hear you.
Can I test my microphone on a phone?
Yes. Open this page in Chrome on Android or Safari on iPhone and allow microphone access when asked.
My mic works here but not in Discord, Zoom or Teams
Then the problem is that app's settings. Open its audio settings and select the same input device that works here. Also check that the app is allowed to use the microphone in your system privacy settings.
