How to check your monitor's refresh rate
This page counts how often your browser can draw a new frame, which matches your display's refresh rate. Wait a few seconds for the number to settle.
Getting the full refresh rate
- Windows 11: Settings → System → Display → Advanced display → Choose a refresh rate.
- macOS: System Settings → Displays → Refresh rate (ProMotion MacBooks adjust automatically).
- Cable: use DisplayPort or HDMI 2.0+/2.1 for 144 Hz and above.
- Laptops: plug in the charger — battery mode often drops to 60 Hz.
Frequently asked questions
Why does it show 60 Hz on my 144 Hz monitor?
The monitor is probably set to 60 Hz. On Windows open Settings → System → Display → Advanced display and pick the highest refresh rate. Also use a DisplayPort or a high-speed HDMI cable — older cables can limit the rate.
Why is the result jumping around?
Background tabs, battery saving mode and heavy apps can make the browser skip frames. Close other apps, plug in your laptop and keep this tab in focus.
Does the browser limit the refresh rate?
Modern Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari run at your display's refresh rate. Some battery-saving modes and older browsers cap at 60 fps.
What do dropped frames mean?
A dropped frame is a moment when the screen didn't get a new image in time. A few are normal; many indicate the computer or browser is overloaded.
